Pancreatic Ductal Ligation in the Treatment of Chronic Relapsing Pancreatits

Abstract
A case of successful management of a chronic relapsing pancreatits is reported with a review of the current literature. The technique is based on Cohnheim¢¥s Law of occlusion. In short, the pancreatic duct was ligated at the most proximal portion of the pancreas (over the pancreatic tissue) in order to bring about a sudden and complete occlusion of the duct.
A 43-years-old man was operated by Madding¢¥s modification of the subtotal pancreatic ductal obstruction on March 14, 1967 in Paik Foundation Hospital.
To the present he has had 2 separate periods of hospitalization for similar episode of pancreatitis.
Following this operation this patient was returned to normal state without any noticeable trouble.
The pancreatic ductal ligation is thought to be of value for a limited case of chronic relapsing pancreatitis not associated with pancreatic ductal stricture. However, further study and experience will be required to establish the value as a proper surgical treatment in limited cases of chronic relapsing pancreatitis.
